I am ethnic Chinese, born and raised in Vietnam. My childhood activities were playing outdoors,
running, chasing in monsoon rain, cooling my feet in puddles and innocently picking my
neighbors’ berries and flowers to bring home. It was filled with tropical colors, sunlight, love and
laughter with my seven siblings. After immigrating to Canada, I became deeply enchanted by
the four seasonal changes. I have transferred the love of my motherland to love of the Rocky
Mountains, the rivers, trees and the land of Alberta.
I work with acrylic, charcoal, soluble crayon. Applying paints, creating layers, scribbling in
marks, blotting out surfaces… I go about the process without a preconception of what is to
become and let my feelings and the intuitive mind guide my hands.
My landscape work uses colors and light to convey the feeling of a place rather than simply its physical appearance. My abstract work focuses on my internal dialogue, allows me to take risks and explore the unknown. I move back-and-forth between these two genres. They fuel my imagination and elevate creativity.
